Spiritual Therapy
Carolina House believes that best-practice treatment of eating disorders considers a person's context in its fullness, including systems of spirituality and faith. Our program offers patients an opportunity to authentically and critically discuss with a community of voices the role of spirituality in their lives, especially as it relates to their emotional and behavioral well being. The group will explore resources from within a patient's particular faith tradition that are in the service of healing — rather than maintaining — her injurious emotional and cognitive/behavioral patterns. Patients will have an opportunity to explore their belief systems and discuss concomitant issues of perfectionism, asceticism, healing, strength, and purpose. Meditation, an important component of spiritual and intrapersonal awareness, is intended to bring about transformation and change through understanding, reflection, and clarity of purpose.
